#2: Photographing Light [Sydney Nguyen]

Photographing Light

With the sun's emergence this weekend, I was finally able to shoot with natural light. My new photos definitely add some variety to the series, which was previously limited to Home Depot, and allowed me to experiment with different editing techniques on lightroom. Shoutout to my tennis coach for letting me snap some quick pics!

  1. Your attention to detail is incredible, Syd. As a class, we discussed how it comes across that you're enjoying experimenting with your rig and editing process. Your inclusion of shadows, grain, and soft blurring make all of these photos feel like separate worlds, not mere stills from factory-cut batches. Kudos

  2. Hey Syd, love the photos, as always! I talked in class about your curtain photo. The delicacy and softness of the photo is beautiful. I can't say much other than it is truly gorgeous. As I mentioned last class, I really appreciate how close up you chose to make some of your photos. This is something I think a lot of people shy away from and you really embrace the technique. For example, the two photos carried over from the last assignment really embrace detail and pay close attention to small patterns and textures. The cropping of photo 4 was a really good choice. The subject matter is the fence and the shadow in the original, and it is even more obvious post-processing. I think the color change of the court was an interesting decision and I would really like to hear about why you chose to do so. Overall, these are wonderful photos!!
