nhi mentioned the male gaze vs the "female gaze" to emphasize the space she felt while being photographed. she wanted to bring light to her comfortability in the chair under these circumstances :).

cheyenne,
ReplyDeleteyour portraits of the homies came out quite polished. the elation/motion captured in your second still is loud enough that it feels like we too heard the joke that's cracking her up. way to capture emotion! Secondly, you just gave nhi an incredible linkedin profile pic. Nice work, and thanks for giving us some book recommendations to check out!
Cheyenne, these are really nice as always! I strongly agree with your decision to make these all black and white. This definitely creates a feeling that they all belong together. Seeing the books and then mentions of the female and male gaze just really gives these images a cohesive feel!! I love the mirror image of yourself. I liked being able to see the different angles. It might be interesting to even angle those mirrors more out to show more, or even angling the camera down to see more of you. I almost wish it was not visible, but that does not sound plausible. On the first image of one of your friends, I would suggest make the light in the top right less extreme in the editing process if possible. I love the collection and can't wait to see the finals!!
ReplyDeleteAs always, I love your work! I think your commitment to black and white makes foe a really nice series look and gives them a sense of uniformity. I love your mirror photo and how you were able to capture multiple angles of yourself in 1 image. I also love the natural, organic feel of the laughing photo because it holds a lot of life and emotion. Well done!
