#5 - PORTRAIT CHALLENGES - BRIANNA WHITE
I still feel like I struggled with this assignment but I am much happier with how this set turned out. I tried to be less worried about what everyone around me thought when I was photographing. For the first part (someone you know) I wanted to highlight a more natural feel, capturing the moment that he looked toward the camera. For the second part, I tried to be more creative in drawing on Nick's use of mirrors. I know I should have come up with a better location and to not make them look as "forced". For part three, I wanted to highlight items and locations that spoke to who lived in the home. Focusing on the head of the table where my mom tends to work on her projects, and my bridles and DSON EQ hat show my love of riding. Overall I am much happier with the creativity of these images but once again they are not as strong.

Hey Brianna, great set of photos! I think the portraits of someone you know are really getting somewhere. I think having more in the photo, as mentioned in class, would be really beneficial for this assignment. The scene you are using for the background could really emphasize the character of the subject, as well as just more of them. I think specifically with the first image, considering he has such an intense stare, if you pushed him back and took some new angles, you could really create a more impactful look. I think it would've been really cool to see you incorporate some of the garden into the self portrait more... for example, if you had crouched down near the flower bed, you could work the flowers into the reflection behind your head. I think that specifically would be very special to see from you because you often photograph flowers and have said it's something you like taking photos of them. Overall, really wonderful!
